The Papiliorama is a unique attraction in Switzerland, located in Kerzers, near Lake Morat in the canton of Fribourg. This nature discovery centre, also known as the Tropical Adventure Museum, plunges visitors into a lush world of exotic butterflies, tropical animals and fascinating biodiversity. Suitable for all ages, Papiliorama is a zoo, tropical garden and educational centre in one.
Immerse yourself in the heart of the tropical jungle
The Papiliorama is famous for its butterfly house, a tropical dome housing more than 1,000 butterflies of all sizes and colours, roaming freely in lush vegetation. More than 60 species can be seen here, originating from Central America, Asia and Africa. The tropical climate (around 25-28°C with high humidity) faithfully recreates the natural conditions of their habitat, allowing visitors to observe them at close quarters, sometimes even emerging from their chrysalis in the pupatorium.
The Nocturama: wildlife by night
Another fascinating area is the Nocturama, a large greenhouse plunged into reverse semi-darkness (day and night artificially inverted), which allows visitors to discover the nocturnal life of the jungle. Here you can see sloths, bats, nocturnal birds, opossums and other animals rarely seen in broad daylight.
Jungle Trek: adventure in Central America
The Jungle Trek is an immersive space recreating a tropical nature reserve in Belize, protected by the Papiliorama Foundation. It's a walk through a dense forest home to howler monkeys, toucanets, turtles, iguanas and many free-roaming birds. This trail offers a unique experience of direct contact with tropical fauna in an almost natural environment.
The Swiss Butterfly Garden and the local world
As well as the tropical greenhouses, the Papiliorama also has areas dedicated to Swiss nature, such as the outdoor Swiss Butterfly Garden (in season), which is home to endangered local species. There is also a nature trail, a mini-farm with animals from the region, and a nature garden to raise awareness of Swiss biodiversity.
For children and families
Papiliorama is an ideal destination for families. It has a play area, an interactive mini-zoo and regularly organises educational workshops. Everything is designed to arouse children's curiosity, teach them respect for nature and raise their awareness of the need to protect species.
